The project was the result of painstaking research, pulling together a snapshot of the rich musical history of the city and mapping it by location and influence.
A research project celebrating the history of the New York music scene, culminating in a screenprinted poster and an interactive map online. Working with regular collaborators Kingdom Collective I designed the poster and online component for the project mapping musicians and bands throughout the five boroughs.

The project was the result of painstaking research, pulling together a snapshot of the rich musical history of the city and mapping it by location and influence.
In framing and designing the final poster, along with a word mark, we added details like a compass design that was set to the correct orientation.

Kingdom Collective worked with writer Frank Broughton and commisioned Adam Hayes to illustrate and create the main map typography. To complement this, I designed a graphic identity and created a version of the map that existed online and became interactive.

For the website, the aim was to bring all of the stories and the relationships in the map to life. The map was zoomable, scrollable and allowed you to get lost in the history of each artist, with quotes from them about New York, and links out to read more.
