Wisdom + AI is a network bringing together AI professionals and buddhist teachers through a series of events, meetups and retreats. The aim being to create and foster a dialogue between the two groups over shared interest around the nature of intelligence and human flourishing in the age of AI. The visual identity needed to support both perspectives and at the same time communicate something new, as created by the network.
The logotype is typeset in an italic serif that has been customised to square off some elements. The main forms of the lettering have roots in calligraphy and show the evidence of the human hand – this is then interrupted with the block-like forms of the machine.
The main shape in the identity represents both the loops of computation and the movements and breathing in buddhist practice. AI relies on computation, which consists of loops or cycles – in processing data, and in calculating logic for predictive outputs. Infinite geometry is also a core part of the visual world of buddhism, referring to the cyclical nature of life. The motion of the loops in the identiy mirrors the breath work of meditation, the cycle of mantras, and some of the contemplative motion behind buddhist practice.
The website is the main space to learn about events and to engage with the network. The use of colour subtly guides you through the different spaces, and we were keen to include motion and video wherever we could.
